What is COPCAS\u2122?<\/h2>\n

The COP Climate Action Studio (COPCAS\u2122) enables doctoral students to remotely participate in the annual UNFCCC<\/a> (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) Conference of the Parties<\/a> in real time. It enables doctoral students to remotely engage and virtually immerse themselves in COP \u2013 the most significant yearly event in the climate policy calendar. As well as hosting international negotiations for climate policy, it is also the venue for a range of policy, practice and research discussions around climate change, and for activists and lobby groups to gain public attention.<\/p>\n

Originally established through a partnership with the SCENARIO Doctoral Training Partnership<\/a> and The Pearl (formerly Walker Institute), the programme has since undergone significant transformation and has been delivered by The Pearl Academy from 2017 onwards. It\u00a0 is open to SCENARIO Doctoral students, as well as Postgraduate students at the University of Reading and other Universities in the UK.<\/p>\n

During the COP period, students work in small groups to attend different sessions remotely, as well as interviewing key people, and writing blogs about their thoughts and experiences. They are supported throughout the process by a research communications professional.<\/p>\n

COPCAS\u2122 facilitates the development of key skills surrounding interdisciplinary working, and provide direct experience of how researchers can successfully engage with other stakeholders. Participation provides students with exposure to the latest ideas in policy and practice, enhancing their abilities to work with users of research.<\/p>\n
