What is The Pearl Academy?<\/h1>\n

The Pearl Academy<\/strong> is the training arm of The Pearl<\/strong><\/a>. Our mission is to build skills and capacity in transdisciplinary climate impact research.<\/p>\n

The Academy offers immersive and participative courses that explore the underlying science of climate change through to its political, economic and livelihood consequences, using \u00a0scenario building, causal networks\u00a0 and household economy modelling techniques.<\/p>\n

Courses are designed for anyone who wants to understand and apply climate information in their field of research, practice, policy making or advocacy. Our students come from academia, government agencies, NGOs and the private sector.<\/p>\n

We work with\u00a0 participants \u00a0at all stages of their careers to provide \u2018climate to policy and impact literacy\u2019 through a systems-thinking approach. Through our courses, we aim to strengthen understanding and dialogue between disciplines\u00a0 working across the complex links in the climate-environment-livelihoods nexus.<\/p>\n

We identify the specific training interests of potential\u00a0 students, and can deliver courses through face-to-face, hybrid \u00a0and online options.<\/p>\n

The COP Climate Action Studio (<\/span>COPCAS\u00ae) enables doctoral students to remotely participate in the annual UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) Conference of the Parties<\/a> in real time.<\/span><\/p>\n

Assessing Livelihood Vulnerability to Extreme Shocks (AliVE) teaches practitioners how quantitative data on people’s <\/span>livelihoods can be collected, analysed and integrated in an\u00a0<\/span>interdisciplinary framework with information from food and climate\u00a0<\/span>science, to support a system-wide analysis of food system resilience<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
